How to replace a power jack in an Acer Aspire One

(1). Begin by first removing the battery, You'll find a switch at the rear of the unit marked with a battery icon and a lock slide the switch over and remove the battery while holding the switch in the unlock position.

(2). Remove all visible screws from the back of the unit including the screws inside the battery cavity.

(3). Remove the keyboard. The keyboard is a little tricky to remove if you have never done it before. Inspect the perimeter of the keyboard, you will notice there are tabs down beside the keyboard frame and the cavity it rests in. Push the tabs back into the body of the computer using a pen knife or other small flat tool. Once the tabs are released carefully lift the keyboard from its cavity. Lift the ribbon cable connector and slide the cable out to complete the removal of the keyboard.

(4). Remove all the hidden screws underneath the key board and carefully try to work the body pab\nals apart from each other, give this some time and make several gaps around the perimeter of the two parts before lifting up and forward towards the screen to remove the upper body cover. remove the small ribbon cable leading from the touch-pad.

(5). Remove the remaining screws holding the hardware inside. Lift out all the components, be sure to open and remove any remaining ribbon cables that your unit may have.

(6). Locate the power supply jack, it is on the rear left upper side of the motherboard. In this example the entire jack had already been ripped loose from the board. If your jack has not yet been completely removed, use the soldering gun to heat the remaining contacts on the opposite side of the board and remove the jack.

(7). Clean out the holes that the jack was soldered into, I find a sharp pointed Exact-O knife, used carefully is a perfect tool for this. You can heat the holes and clear them with the soldering gun, but I try to refrain from this practice as much as possible.

(8). Fit and refit the jack into the holes adjusting the contacts to fit easily into the board. Don't force the part, you mat have to realign the contacts a few times to get them set just where you will need them.

(9). Replace the jack into the board in it's proper position. Solder the contacts carefully into the board. Use solder sparingly a little too much can run into other contacts causing major damage once the power is applied.

(10). Replace the board into the bottem case of the netbook. Replace the screws that held the board in place. Be sure to replace any plugs or cables you may have released in the procedding steps.

(11). Replace the top to the Acer Aspire One and replace the screws from the bottom and inside the battery cavity.

(12). Install the keyboard by replacing the ribbon cable and snapping the board back into place. Start the computer to check your work.
