2.1 magnitude earthquake, Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama

Some seismic activity shook Northwest Georgia Friday morning. I noticed nothing myself but many others did.

According to Hometown Headlines, the 2.1 magnitude earthquake shook an area just 5 miles northwest of Trion and 24 miles west of Calhoun at around 8:49 in the morning.

Both Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama have a particularly active track record of earthquakes for the south, as both are located inside what is called the ‘Eastern Tennessee Seismic Zone.’ Though this area is not known for having large, destructive tremors, there are several earthquakes through-out the year---many of which go undetected by people.
