Blasphemy Against the Holy Ghost
Today my brother asked me my opinion on the question of the unpardonable sin of Blasphemy Against the Holy Ghost. He had inquired as to my thought on what exactly this means. Everyone that knows me well knows I have a very diverse and different view of religion. I have always said that I believe in God but I don not believe in religion. I don't however fault anyone for whatever their personal beliefs may or may not be. I can assure you I for one ain't no Saint. In so much as I have formed my on beliefs and practices I also have read and studied various religions and cultures. I don't claim to be an expert, but I will give my honest un biased opinion of any question based on the teachings as well as I understand them.
The problem he was dealing with was a question of if indeed there was anyone that could not be saved and or allowed into the kingdom of heaven. He told me he had a young man at his church that was afraid he himself was unforgivable due to his past. Upon his asking his question I was honestly stumped not so much as to what the answer was but more how to explain it. I have since had a better chance to assemble my thoughts, memories and few notes and I have prepared a little more comprehensive and comprehensible answer. In order to answer this I had to ask myself a few questions to get it all straight in my mind. Number one, What is Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost? Second, Who can commit this sin? Third What exactly does unforgivable mean?
I found this mentioned in only three places, all three being a record of the same incident. I found references in Matthew 12:22-23;
Mark 3:22-30;
Luke 11:14-20 along with12:24
In each of these records, Christ has cast out devils and is accused by the Pharisees of casting them out by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. It seems to me that this in itself is the sin that is spoken of the denial of Gods work and giving credit to the Satan. If this is the case then a person would have had to personally witness a miracle of Christ and then deny that miracle in order to "sin against the Holy Spirit". From this I would think the no person in the modern world could be capable of committing this sin. The sin of Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit isn't even mentioned again after the Crucifixion, which leads me to think that this particular sin is no longer able to be committed. So I would have to say my answer is yes the young man can be saved as can anyone in our modern times.
